The Flood in Franklin...oh my!

Wow, what a weekend! Saturday started out like any other rainy Saturday. We just hung out and enjoyed being lazy. It did rain sideways for most of the morning, but we didn't think much about it. We were supposed to go to a Derby Party in Hermitage and were still consider going until about 1pm. That is when we had the tornado sirens go off again and the rain was continuing to pour down by the buckets full and we decided to stay put. We had the TV on, but now some images of the rest of Nashville starting coming into the stations. We sat in awe as we heard of interstates closing, people being evacuated and saw cars literally being consumed by water. It was strange watching on live TV as the water continued to rise on I-24 and people were jumping out of their cars and over the median to the other side. Then we saw the portable classroom floating down the interstate and knew that we were all in trouble. We have a rain gauge at our house and we got at least 10 inches of water on Sat and another 6 or so inches on Sunday. 16 inches of rain in less than 48 hours. We were in our bubble and our home was not damaged. The rest of Franklin and Middle TN was not so lucky.

This was a tiny creek that is barely a trickle on a normal day.

Up to Jackson's knees!!!

Yes, Taylor let Jackson play in the rushing water.

Wow, that is deep! This is normally just a field.

Downtown Franklin on Tues, 2 days after the rain stopped.

The Harpeth River 2 days after the rain stopped. The river is normally about 1/3 this width.

This car was completely under water and then floated down to this building off the square in Franklin. The Sonic across the street had water up past the menus where you drive up to order.
